We are less than 2 weeks away from a fresh start.
A clean slate.
A blank canvas.
However you want to describe the New Year…it’s coming!
January 1st acts as the perfect starting point for many people looking to improve their health. Nothing like a good resolution to change your life!
Unfortunately…starting is the easy part…it’s the “Sticking to it” piece that many will struggle with.
By the end of week 1, 23% of people will quit their resolution.
By the end of January, that number bumps to 43%.
And as the months go on…the lack of adherence becomes more and more pronounced.
Until 2025 comes around and the cycle repeats.
So…how can we prevent this? How can we get you to beat the statistics? How can we have you STICK to a fitness routine and healthy eating?
1) Start NOW
The first and most important thing is not waiting till Jan 1. Every day you push it off, is a day where you could be gaining momentum and making progress. The next few weeks will be crazy, no doubt, but if you can find routine in the chaos you’ll have momentum going into the new year. And when you have momentum on your side, success is inevitable.
2) Don’t bite off more than you can chew
Throw away the idea of 6 days in the gym with additional cardio on 3 of the days. It might sound great now…but what about 3 weeks from now? Not so much.
It’s important to set yourself up for success. If you plan for 5 days of exercise but only hit 4…you feel like a failure.
Whereas if you plan for 3 days and end up going 4…you feel unstoppable!
You're doing the same amount of work, but by lowering your expectations you give yourself a chance to exceed them.
I HIGHLY recommend your plan look something like this:
3 days in the gym
8000 steps per day
It’s a very achievable starting goal.
3) Set up a form of accountability
The biggest reason people fall off the wagon and fail to get back on…they have nobody (or nothing) to hold them accountable. I’ll be real with you…getting into shape is HARD. Anyone who tells you different is lying to you.
But trying to do it alone…makes it 10x more difficult. Lean on those in your life OR bring new people into your life to hold you accountable.
Some ways to do this:
Set up a weekly call with a friend/family member where you report the number of workouts you hit, what your weight is, etc.
Hire a coach…(more on this below)*
Sign up for a competition that intimidates you then tell EVERYONE in your life about it. Fear of failing/dropping out is a powerful accountability tool.
Bonus*: Hiring a coach
Yes I am a coach. Yes I am bias.
But if you’re serious about making getting into the best shape of your life in 2024…
If you’re serious about no longer starting and falling off…
Then hiring a coach will be the best investment you make.
The plan will be crafted FOR you…so you just need to show up and work. On the days you feel like skipping your coach will be there to remind you WHY you’re doing this & push through the lack of motivation. & some coaches (like myself) create a group atmosphere to connect you with people that are going through the same struggles you are facing. So that you NEVER feel alone.
I hope you choose to start working today. Because i’m serious when I say I want nothing more than 2024 to be the year everything changes for you.
You got this friend!
