The biggest lie you keep telling yourself
Procrastination.
Whenever I hear this word I’m immediately thrown back into my high school classroom…
Listening to my teacher say “your exam is on Friday. Start studying today. Don’t wait!”
To which my internal dialogue was always “I’ve got plenty of time…I’ll start tomorrow”.
Tomorrow would come…
And that same voice in my head would say “You’ve still got a few days…push it off till tomorrow”.
Then I’d blink, it’d be Thursday evening, and I was stressed out of my mind because I realized I knew a third of the material I would be tested on.
Procrastination is a death sentence when it comes to achievement.
For every 1 person that says they function best on it…there’s 100 that completely drop the ball.
This reigns true for fitness as well.
So many people play the “I’ll workout later in the day” card and what happens..?
Later comes…and the internal dialogue is “ahhhh, I’ve had a long day I’ll just workout tomorrow”.
Then they blink, it’s the end of the week, and they haven’t set foot in a gym once.
If this is you…don’t worry, I have the fix:
GET IT DONE FIRST THING IN THE MORNING
Waking up early can suck…no doubt.
But I promise after 2 weeks you’ll be used to it.
The reality is…life gets busier as the day goes on. Stuff comes up and priorities get shifted. (Especially if you’re a parent!)
So if you can knock out your workout before the chaos of the day ensues, you’re never at risk of missing.
Now if you’re reading this thinking, “Michael, I’ve tried working out in the morning and I can never stick to it”…
I got you…here are some tips
1) Wake up at the same time EVERY DAY.
If it’s your rest day…wake up and read a book
If it’s the weekend…wake up and beat the crowd to the gym
The reason waking up early is so hard is because you only do it sporadically. The more consistent you are, the quicker your body will adjust, and the easier it will become.
2) Stage your stuff
Before you go to bed, you should have everything ready to rock in the morning…
Lay out your clothes
Pack your gym bag
Have your pre-gym meal prepped
Pre-set the coffee to go off ;)
The less you have to do in the morning, the better!
3) Place your phone across the room.
It’s so easy to hit the snooze button when all you have to do is roll over. Force yourself to leave your bed to get to your phone and you’re less likely to get back under the covers.
Again…the hardest part is the first 2 weeks.
Get past this and I promise it will become easier.
Make the commitment TODAY!
You got this friend!!
